In this
next feature we are going to look at ‘The Anchor Line Bar and Grill’ located
just off of George Square in Glasgow city centre.
Location:
The grade A
listed building is located in Glasgow city centre making it easily
accessible for everyone. Located in the former booking offices for
ships between Glasgow and New York, the restaurant aims for a New York bistro
feel.
Interior:
The Anchor
line boasts an extensive history and this can be felt throughout the interior,
exhibits can be found at the back of the restaurant that can enlighten you on
the history of the ocean liners travelling between Europe, United states and
beyond. The interior design is reminiscent of a classy New York bar from the
30s or 40s, as many of the original features of the building look to be
incorporated into the restaurant.
The main event;
The Anchor
line has an extensive range of alcoholic drinks, ranging from
signature cocktails to local Scottish and American beers, there truly is
something for everyone’s taste, if your desired cocktail was not on the menu,
bar staff are happy to make the drink for you too.
With the standard A La Carte there are
also additional Sunday lunch and pre-theatre menus. There area range of options available, for starters you can choose
from seafood dishes such as: Oysters, scallops or prawn
cocktail. There’s also the options of smoked ribs and duck parfait but if you’d
prefer something lighter there is also grilled asparagus or seasonal soup.
For mains
the focus seems to be on classic dishes: Scotch lamb, smoked ribs and signature
burger. The restaurant offers a range of steaks, including
steaks for two, we did attempt to order the porterhouse steak and chateaubriand
but were disappointed to discover these were not available at the time, very
disappointing! Instead we opted for the fillet, there most expensive option at
£29; it couldn’t be faulted, we ordered medium-rare and it was cooked to
perfection.
On the
dessert menu there is, again, something for everyone: from classic summer berry
cheesecake to chocolate brownie. As well as gluten free options and a range of
liqueur, sheery, malt whiskies and cognac.
Hope you
all enjoy and cheers for reading!
